MOUAU Veterinary Medicine Unveils Research Journal

Open access academic journals are paramount in the dissemination of knowledge for scientific development. It is on this note that the College of Veterinary Medicine of the University unveiled the College journal titled, ‘Journal of Sustainable Veterinary and Allied Sciences’, where it revealed scientific methodologies for increasing reproduction in domestic and farm animals.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held at the University auditorium, recently, the journal reviewer and Assistant Managing Editor, Dr. Emmaunel Uwalaka highlighted the various scientific researches conducted to improve reproduction and health in various animals. He also stressed the need for practitioners in Veterinary Medicine to adhere to public health measures while handling animals.

The outgoing Dean of the College, Prof. C. O. Ezeibe, in his welcome address, noted that the journal is aimed at stimulating research activities in students and to guide them towards self-sufficiency. Prof. Ezeibe used the occasion to showcase projects completed by the College, including the review of its curriculum, publication of a new version of the college handbook, as well as the completion of a fish pond.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Udo Herbert, representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, extolled the strides made by the College in publishing the Journal and the completion of a fish pond. He reaffirmed that the University would continue to encourage and support every activity of any college in uplifting the University.

On his part, the Chairman of the occasion and Director of MOUAU Extension Centre, Prof. Ike Nwachukwu, who noted that the field of Veterinary Medicine has a wide scope, called on the College to correct the perception among young ones that it is only for animal health. Prof. Nwachukwu also applauded the College for putting up the Journal which he said is the second Journal to be approved by the University Journal Board.

Speaking at the occasion, the Directorate of University Research Administration (DURA), Prof. Uma Kalu Oke described the College’s feat as the right step towards positioning the University as a world class institution. He seized the opportunity to remind his audience of the availability of grants for Academic Research Journals (ARJ) provided by TETFUND and enumerated guidelines to access the funds.

The event attracted the principal officers of the University, as well as deans and heads of units and departments. Students of the College of Veterinary Medicine were also in attendance.
