MOUAU Alumni President, Obasi Revalidated As Member Governing Council

The Global President, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), Alumni Association, Dr. Obasi Igwe Oscar, has been revalidated to represent convocation in governing council of the institution.

In a motion moved by Dr. Ujah Promise and supported by Prof. Onwuchekwa Raphael Iheke at Senator Pius Anyim Hall of the university recently, the graduates and academic staff of the institution unanimously revalidated Dr. Obasi to represent convocation in the governing council.

Earlier in his speech, the Vice Chancellor, MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, lauded Dr. Obasi-led MOUAU Alumni Association for their commitments to the institution, describing them as partners in progress.

He regretted that the university has been without the governing council, explaining that it has affected the institution negatively in terms of appointments, promotions, among others.

Prof. Iwe who congratulated the Dr. Obasi for his revalidation as a council member, revealed that the present council representatives would serve out their four years tenure.

Iwe who also reiterated his commitment towards giving the university a good shape before leaving office, disclosed that the institution has enthrened a situation whereby the President of MOUAU Alumni Association, represents convocation in the council.

Responding, the Global President, MOUAU Alumni Association, Dr. Obasi Igwe Oscar, thanked the university for the confidence reposed in him to represent convocation in council, maintaining that he would not disappoint them.

Dr. Obasi who also commended the VC MOUAU, Prof. Iwe for providing academic leadership to the university, restated that his support to the alumni body would not be taken for granted.

Obasi further described the Alumni body as a major stakeholder in the university system, hence, the reason the MOUAU Alumni is building a 1000-seater lecture theatre as part of their contribution to enhance teaching and learning.

He expressed hope that the 1000-seater lecture theatre project would be commissioned in 2025, urging MOUAU Alumni in Nigeria and diaspora to support the project as a way of giving back to the system to make it a reality.

In their separate remarks, the National Secretary, MOUAU Alumni Association, Dr. Chukwudi Njoku and the Chairman, MOUAU Alumni Association, Umuahia Chapter, Dr. Onyekachi Uwalaka, applauded the revalidation of Dr. Obasi to represent convocation in the council, adding that it would be of great benefits to the citadel of learning.
