MOUAU 10th Convocation: VC Reiterates Commitment Towards Academic Excellence, Unveils Bakery, Others

The Vice-Chancellor, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), Abia state, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe has reiterated his administration commitment towards academic excellence, staff and students welfare among others.

The university helsman who stated this during a press conference marking MOUAU 10th convocation recently, maintained that his administration has zero tolerance to indiscipline, cultism and other related vices.

MOUAU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, during the handing over of the university’s Bread and Biscuit factory recently.

He stated that the university would be graduating 6,609 students with 4,114 belonging to 2018/2019 at the graduate and postgraduate levels. Of the 5,815 first degree graduands, he disclosed that 90 obtained First Class honours, 1,775 passed with Second Class honours (Upper Division), 2,905 with Second Class (Lower Division), 1226 with third class honors and 18 with Pass Degree.
Prof Iwe further revealed that the university will confer four Nigerians with the honorary ward of the university in recognition of their partnership with the university, adding that the university expects more from them in the development of Agriculture, science and technology.

He described the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the university and National Agriculture Land Development Authority (NALDA) on October 5th, 2021 as a major milestone.

He revealed that the university would use the 400 Hectare of land for agricultural research and demonstration purpose.

The Professor of Food Science Technology, further thanked government agencies partnering with the institution, assuring them that their assistance will be utilized for the good of the nation.

Iwe revealed that his administration has continued to fast-track the completion and expansion of the College of Agricultural Economic, Rural Sociology and Extension (CAERSE), the College of Physical and Applied Sciences (COLPAS) and the College of Natural Resources and Management (CNREM), complexes among others, explaining also that the ongoing rehabilitation work in the university’s Senator Anyim Pius Anyim auditorium would soon be completed.

He added that the university has fast-tracked the processing of students statement of Results and transcripts handling and issuance with plans to achieve a 100 per cent electronic handling in the shortest possible time.

In his words: “My administration has continued to extend and strengthen its open-door approach to the staff of the university. The staff can still reach the management easily with their needs and request. The university has continued to maintain a number of social media platforms to facilitate communication between staff and management of the university.”

Prof Iwe who described information as vital, stated that his administration had revitalized the university’s information dissemination channels to keep both the internal and external public abreast with our administration’s activities, maintaining that the university the weekly e-newletters has also remained efficient and effective with the latest happenings in the university.

He revealed that the university has held her 51st inaugural lecture series recently with the outputs of other inaugural lectures, made public to form subjects of national discourse.

The VC further disclosed that the university’s mandate under his administration has contributed to enthrone functional, sustainable, excellence-driven and productive research culture, especially in Agriculture, Science, Engineering and Management, to solve societal problems and priority needs, address global realities and established needs of the university’s catchment area.

The Vice-Chancellor commended Prof. M.C.O. Ezibe for receiving an award for excellent performance at the 2021 science, technology and innovation Expo at Abuja, adding that it was a credit to the university.

Iwe, however, decried the state of the university’s infrastructural and physical facilities, adding that they belies collective commitment to produce world class graduates.

“Therefore is a dire need for significant infusion of funds for upgrade of our physical environment, especially when realized that this university was among those universities that started without a take-off grant from government”, he maintained.

He further said that the university community finds it difficult to access the institution due to bad roads, calling for urgent measure on the road.

The Isuochi-born professor expressed hope the university has a bright future with huge potential, maintaining that they would continue to stride gloriously towards the positive side of history where they would be remembered for reading beyond themselves.

He insisted that the efforts of his administration will continue to be hinged on prudent management fairness, friendship and partnership, physical development, research and innovation, staff and students welfare, and Information Communication Technology (ICT) among others.

In another development the bread and biscuit factory whose contract were awarded 2013/2014 has been completed and handed over to the university.

Speaking during the handover, the VC expressed hope that the facility will be useful in the training of students in the food science and technology, agribusiness and as well as entrepreneurs studies.

He also commissioned the rebranded MOUAU Filling Station.
