The wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, on Sunday joined the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Umuahia, to mark the 2026 Mothering Sunday celebration.
Speaking during the church service at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Umuahia, the state capital, Mrs. Otti called on mothers to use the occasion to promote love in families, combat evil in communities, and inspire, uplift, and empower others in society.
Represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Chinenye Nwaka, Otti said the theme of this year’s celebration, “Motherhood: A Divine Treasure,” reminds society that motherhood is a precious gift and a divine calling that requires love, sacrifice, and dedication.
She described the Anglican women’s initiative to raise funds for the purchase of a bus to facilitate evangelism and spread the word of God as commendable. She also made a cash donation to support the initiative.
The governor’s wife further charged the women to use the bus as a tool to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and empower individuals to stand against it.
In a sermon, the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Obiajulu Ibeabuchi, called on Nigerians to deepen their faith and uphold civic responsibility in difficult times.
The cleric emphasized that mothers are indeed divine treasures whose influence sustains families, strengthens communities, and nurtures spiritual life.
In her message, the wife of the Archdeacon, Mrs. Amarachukwu Ufegbu, urged women to remain steadfast in their service to God and humanity.
“Your roles as mothers, caregivers, mentors, and supporters in the church and society do not go unnoticed by God,” she said.
