One would expect Port Harcourt City to continue with its clean environment and maintain its garden city statue, but unfortunately it is now competing with such dirty cities as could not be mentioned.
Recently, the environmental authority has failed on its task of making sure that the city is clean. The mile one Fly Over is very dirty and deadly as it has turned out to be the hiding place for hoodlums and criminals.
Cases of girls and women raped abound and stealing and snarling of hone become a daily occurrence, which makes people around there to walk and live in fiasco,as no one knows the next thing that could happen in the next moment.
Apart from its unpaved nature, mile one fly over situated at the heart of Port Harcourt City, close to the Government House is a negation to clean environment and Garden City status of Rivers State.
People excrete even on the roads ,on the walls, the damage has been totally blocked because of the illegal activities of street food sellers, pure water hawkers and the rest of them.
One of those interviewed equally pointed out that the condemned tyres heaped there by the sanitation authority makes the environment quite dirty and a hideout for criminals.
According to him, boys smoke there, rape women there, while armed robbers take refuge there.
Some others said that grasses have over grown everywhere and the environment has become an open public toilet where people throw refuge to the extent that the roads around there have become impassable as a result of the odor coming out from the excreta decomposing refuge littered there.
To many, the dirty environment and criminal activities seen in the mile one Fly Over, is in line with what is attainable in every busy city where there is buying and selling plus the motor rand within the area.
The grasses are overgrown to the extent that it becomes impossible for one to see another person on the other lane.
The implication here is that the environment is not healthy for any human being. The tyres and the grasses and the dirt are breeding havens for mosquitoes, sun flies, tsetse flies, and reptiles especially snakes and other dangerous creatures.
A healthy environment is always a clean and neat environment devoid of dirtiness. Let the Rivers State Government do something concerning the mile one fly over.
