Over 100 people officially joined the Labour Party at the headquarters of the Aba South Local Government Council, signaling a major boost for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. The event attracted political support groups, market and motor unions, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
The defectors were formally welcomed into the party and urged to prioritize unity, commitment, and the collective interest of the people. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, Aba South State Constituency Member and Speaker of the Abia House of Assembly, declared that the era of maladministration and anti-people policies in the state was over.
Speaker Emeruwa highlighted the importance of strong leadership, teamwork, and active participation in the ongoing E-Registration of party members. He encouraged everyone to contribute to building a party that is credible, disciplined, and people-focused. Dr. Kingsley Nwaigburu, General Manager of the Debt Management Office in Abia State Ministry of Finance, praised the Speaker for attracting reputable personalities into the party and described him as an “equilateral triangle” for his balanced and steady leadership style.
Other notable speakers included Barr. Chijioke Nkaru, former PDP State Legal Officer, and Hon. Chima Mbama, former Aba South Transition Committee Chairman. They commended Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti for restoring abandoned roads and improving key infrastructure across Aba.
Chief Anyanwu Obialor, Mayor of Aba South Local Government Council and host of the event, assured the defectors of equal opportunities within the party. He also called for more electronic machines to enhance the ongoing E-Registration process.
Prominent attendees included Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, Majority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, and other state and federal lawmakers. The massive turnout reflected the growing strength and influence of the Labour Party in Aba South as it positions itself for the 2027 elections.
