Man, 30, drowns in swamp flood in Port Harcourt

Tragedy has struck in Rivers State as a man gets drowned in a swamp flood.

Gerald Ojiogu, 30, a native of Ozuzu Etche Local  Government Area of Rivers State, who resided in Rumuowha, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, met his untimely death as he fell into a well covered by flood, while  searching for snail in a swamp.

According to his brother, Oluu Ojiogu, they went for snail hunting and equally decided to go fishing, on seeing that the water had come up.

He disclosed that his late brother wanted to jump through the window but was discouraged from going through that avenue, yet he insisted, stating that he would make it.

Ojiogu further stated that with his landlord’s son, Justice and his two other brothers they went through  another side, but on getting there, did not see him, so the search for him began, but later they saw his dead body in a well.

Speaking with one of the medical practitioners in Michellia Hospital, Rumuowha, in a bid to ascertain what could have caused his death, a medical doctor in the hospital Dr. Justina Pinawo, who saw the body, stated that the boy must have hit his head at the edge of the well, which led to his death.

She also  elaborated that a hard hit on the head, while he was falling into the well, must have led to his instant death.

When our Correspondent visited Eneka Police Station, Rivers State, the police said that the matter had not been reported in their station.
