Life-ND Flag Off Rural Agribusiness Infrastructure Support System In Abia

ABIA STATE PROJECT CORDINATOR LIFE-ND, DR. UCHENNA ONYEIZU(C),REGIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE CORDINATOR, ENGR MOLUNO ANTHONY (L), LIFE-ND STAFF AND CONTRACTORS AFTER INTERACTIVE SECTION RECENTLY. 

The Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprise in the Niger Delta region, LIFE-ND in Abia State, through the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD Friday, flagged off its component-1.2 rural agribusiness infrastructure development support system in the state.

At an interactive section today in Umuahia with contractors of its rural infrastructure development, the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Uchenna Onyeizu stated that the objective of the interaction was to intimate the contractors on Life-ND/ IFAD  about the standard and guidelines on project implementation.

Onyeizu, revealed that because of the impacts of Life-ND programmes in the area of poultry, rice, cassava and oil palm processing on the incubatees, that they have decided to move into the component-2 of the programme by building rural agribusiness infrastructure support system where incubatees will graduate into and be empowered to start their own businesses.

According to him, ” Our project in this phase is to build agribusiness support systems for our incubatees but while we are doing that, we also advise our contractors to protect the environment from damage”.

Onyeizu, further explained that the host communities in which the ring roads, the poultry and land development for agribusinesses are built for incubatees would be made direct beneficiaries of the products from the projects.

In his analysis, the State Rural Infrastructure Officer, Engr. Chimaobi Otutubuike, explained that the importance of the meeting with the contractors was for them to comply with the Life-ND/IFAD strict guidelines in order to deliver quality projects.

According to him, “If at any point during inspection, we discover that substandard materials were being used, we will terminate the contract. So, my advise for you contractors is to deliver quality job within the established guidelines”.

In his speech, the Regional Infrastructure Coordinator, Engr. Moluno Anthony, said that the national office has a role to play and needs total commitment on the part of the contractors so that the aim of the programme would be achieved.
