LGSC Organizes Seminar For Staff, States Commitment To Run Monthly Trainings

 

The Local Government Service Commission has reiterated its resolve to be committed in the training and retraining of its staff for better efficiency.

The Chairman of Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Victor Azumara,who stated this in Umuahia, during the one day Seminar/Workshop organized for all Head of Service, Directors of Admins/Head of Personnel Management, Deputy Directors of Admin and Information officers of the Local Government Service,said the Local government will surely deliver on its mandate to improve the standard of the people and workers.

According to him, Training/Re-training is one of the key mandate of the LGSC, since it constitutes an integral part of any known organization.

The LGSC chairman described the theme of the seminar “Application of Protocol,Ethics and Decorum in the Local Government Service”, as apt and carefully chosen, in view of the observed deficiencies in the service.

He urged the participants to take the seminar very serious,as professionals have been invited to address certain topics bothering on their job delivery, maintaining that the Local Government system under his watch would not tolerate indolence or excuses for non performance.

Azumara while commending the State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for approving the training of staff for adequate delivery, informed that the seminar/workshop would henceforth be a monthly affair,stating the commission’s readiness to partner with staff to move the Local Government Service forward

In an interview with newsmen, Azumara listed out his achievements  so far made, saying the commission has done workshops for all the commissioners in the commission, effected some infrastructural changes,did posting of staff, adding that on the whole,the commission is committed to repositioning the Local Government System.

Reacting to the issue of Local Government Financial Autonomy, the Chairman, said it would bring positive effect, stating that since the local government service is a creation of Law, any arrangement will be to the interest of the commission.

He, however, revealed that the State Government has made provisions available, empowered and mandated the LGSC to train and organize workshops for staff, adding that the commission would continue to deliver on their mandate.

Azumara, therefore, advised staff to thrive to upgrade themselves,so as to flow with the tide and be current with issues bothering on the Local Government System, maintaining that the commission is on the road to reinvent and restore productivity.

Highpoint of the occasion, was the paper presentation by Chimdi Oluoha, with the topic,”The Fundamentals of Protocols”, while Eze Nwokoma presented a paper on the “Restoration of Ethical Behaviour In the Unified Local Government Service.
