The Chairman, Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Abia State, Elder James Ebere Nwokochah, has reiterated the unwavering commitment of Governor Alex Chioma Otti to improving the welfare of workers in the state, particularly at the local government level.
Elder Nwokochah gave this assurance during his recent working visits to Arochukwu, Ohafia, Bende, and Isuikwuato Local Government Areas (LGAs).
He commended Governor Otti for alleviating the suffering of Abians, noting that, under the current administration, workers now receive their monthly salaries promptly; a significant improvement from the past.
Highlighting the Governor’s transformative strides across various sectors of the state, Elder Nwokochah described Aba as the heartbeat of Abia’s economy and praised the administration’s infrastructural renewal in the commercial city.
He called on local government workers to reciprocate the Governor’s goodwill by supporting his policies and programmes, which he said are designed for the collective good of all Abians.
He also advised workers to shun corruption and partisanship in their official duties, insisting that the Commission has zero tolerance to that.
According to the LGSC boss, the Otti-led administration is equally committed to building capacity within the workforce through continuous training and retraining, especially for local government employees.
Addressing concerns from staff in Isuikwuato LGA about the implementation of the 2021/2022 promotion exercise, Nwokochah called for patience and assured them that Governor Otti remains attentive to their needs and welfare.
In their separate remarks, the Mayors of Isuikwuato, Arochukwu, Bende, and Ohafia LGAs; Hon. Chinedu Ekeke, Dr. Okereke Ezearo, Deacon Bassey Uwabunkonye, and Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, represented by his deputy Chief Eme Iro respectively, thanked Dr. Alex Otti for his administration’s efforts in health, education, critical Infrastructure, security, payment of salaries and pensions among others, noting that they are proud of his visionary leadership.
They also thanked Elder Nwokochah and his team for the visit, pledging to foster cordial relationships with council workers and to implement worker-friendly policies in line with the Governor’s vision.
Contributing, the Commissioner 1 in the LGSC, Barr. Jerry Uzosike, appreciated the commitment of local government workers and encouraged them to continue supporting Governor Otti’s administration, describing it as a moral obligation in view of the reforms already underway.
In a vote of thanks, Comrade Ikechukwu Ijioma, Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Isuikwuato Chapter, expressed gratitude to the LGSC leadership for the visit. He reaffirmed the union’s support for Governor Otti, applauding his efforts in transforming the state and restoring dignity to the civil service.
Other members of the LGSC delegation included Commissioners Dame Ngozi Nwagbara PhD, Hon. Allen Wogu, Hon. Joe Ezearu, Dr. Godwin, and Engr. Oji Uka Kalu PhD. The Permanent Secretary, Ezinne Judith Ngwakwe PhD, along with other senior members of staff of the Commission, were also present.
