Leadership Failures Rooted in Greed, Tribalism, Corruption — Nengi

A political analyst and former youth leader, Mr. Nengi Bob West, has attributed maladministration in Nigeria to the complexities of leadership fueled by greed, tribalism, corruption, and self-interest among political leaders.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with EagleswatchOnline News in Port Harcourt, Mr. West lamented that governance in Nigeria continues to suffer due to selfish motives, pride, and high-handedness of those in power. He noted that while the President, Governors, and lawmakers are saddled with enormous responsibilities, their failure to prioritize national interest has led to poor policy decisions that hurt the very citizens who elected them.

“Leaders are more concerned about themselves and their immediate families. They make misguided policies that deepen economic hardship and insecurity, while watching the citizens suffer and die in poverty,” he said, citing the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as an example.

Mr. West stated that the leadership style and policies of the Tinubu administration have exacerbated issues of corruption, injustice, tribalism, and widespread insecurity, causing daily struggles for ordinary Nigerians.

He further observed that the failure of politicians to address these pressing issues has pushed many frustrated youths toward desperate means of survival, including crime and fraudulent activities, in order to support their families.

Other respondents interviewed echoed Mr. West’s sentiments, adding that the persistent failure of Nigerian leaders to deliver on good governance stems from deliberate greed and insensitivity to the needs of the people. They criticized the federal lawmakers and the presidency for formulating harsh economic policies without considering the impact on the masses.

They called on the government to prioritize the provision of employment, social amenities, and youth-friendly policies to alleviate suffering and give hope to the nation’s growing population of young people.
