Abia Lawmaker relinquish position; House confirms Commissioner nominee

The member representing Umuahia East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo, has relinquished his position as the Deputy Majority Whip of the 7th House of Assembly.
Apugo who announced this during House plenary today thanked his constituents for reelecting him back to the House of Assembly for the second time and his party, the People’s Democratic Party for recommending him for the position, disclosed that he accepted the appointment wholeheartedly and noted that his decision to relinquish same was personal and to the best interest of the Party.

In another development, the Abia State House of Assembly has confirmed the nomination of Chief John Okiyi Kalu as a Commissioner in Abia State.

Announcing this during plenary today, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, after reading out a letter from the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, informed that the confirmation was done at the Executive session of the House.

 

The House equally received a letter from the Governor, requesting the confirmation of the appointment of 17 Local Government Area Transition Committee Chairmen.
The House, however, set up an adhoc committee to that will screen and confirm the nominees accordingly.
