Imo state police command has arrested six persons suspected to have abducted and murdered one Cyriacus Onunkwo, a Rev. Father of Umuotuasi village, Osina in Ideato North Local government area of the state
Briefing the press at the Imo state police headquarters, Owerri while parading the suspects, Imo state police commissioner Mr. Chris Ezike said the incident occurred on September, 2017 at banana junction, Orlu, Imo state.
According to him, on September 1, 2017 at about 2035 hrs, police received report that 4 armed men using a Toyota Avalon car double crossed Rev. Father Onunkwu who was driving in his Toyota corolla car with registration no. Imo Ked 290 A.A grey in colour was abducted and taken to unknown place through Avalon car.
Equally arrested on the same date, the commissioner said one Emmanuel Ozuigbo a WASC holder who hailed from Mgbagbvowa in Ezeagi of Enugu state, Victor Ikechukwu Iroakansi 33 from Umuchukwu Umuagu Obowo he holds B.Sc In Management technology, FUTO.
According to the commissioner one Ikechukwu Nwosu, 28 years was arrested September 7, 2017 and he hailed from Azia in Ihiala LGA, Anambra state, Jude Madu, 32 years an ex-police officer is from Amuze Ahiara in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA he was arrested at control post Owerri in possession of deceased phone.
The deceased mighty have died out of suffocation because his abductors tied him up, his mouth cellotaped and dumped in the booth of their car, Avalon, Mr Ezike added.
Following his abduction by the hoodlums, the police subsequently declared a search on September 2, 2017, the divisional police officer, Omuma reported that an unidentified corpse of a man was seen in his area of jurisdiction and recovered.
In-view of this incident, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris was saddened by this development and ordered full scale investigation, adding that he directed that he should place all assets of the command at the disposal of the investigation team to solve the problem.
As a result of this directive from I.G one Izukwu Okafor 25years was arrested on September 6, at Hotel Presidential Port Harcourt, on the same date one Onyema Cyril 29 from Umuaro Village, Okwele in Onuimo L.G.A of the state who holds National Diploma Public Admin, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede was arrested.
