The Abia commissioner for Transport, Hon Ekele Nwaohamuo, has disclosed that the on going data capturing for tricycle operators in the state will not only curb security challenges but will boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Hon Nwaohamuo who stated this in his office, in an interview with National Ambassador Online, said 80% of the criminal cases in Abia are perpetrated with Keke, stressing that data capturing at this point, became imperative, so as to help identify who the real Keke operators are and the ones that use it for the purpose of carrying out one nefarious act or the other.
Interms of creating IGR, the Transport boss said during budgeting, the budget planners with the help of the data captured, would know how many keke operators are operating in the state and how much revenue they generate, so they can be planned for.
He maintained that Keke capturing is very important to the state just as population capturing is important to the Federal Government.
Speaking on the colouring exercise, the Transport boss commended Umuahia operators on the level of compliance so far, urging Aba Keke operators to follow suit, since the governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu , is pursuing the exercise with all vigour.
Stating the Ministry’s challenges, he said alot of Keke operators go for colouring on their own without passing through due process.
According to him, capturing and colouring go side by side and one cannot do the later without first going through the former, urging those who have not yet captured, to do so before the deadline.
He, however urged Abians to see government policies as well thought out for the good of Abia, maintaining that no government policy is set up to punish people.
