Kanu Oji, Aro Throne And The Future of Arochukwu Kingdom

The throne of Arochukwu Kingdom since inception, has remained a sacred and respectable one to the point that even the British government and the British Royal family, recognized and respected this kingdom.

In 1956, the Late Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom, Mazi Kanu Oji (OBE, KBE, CON, CFR), was a special invitee and among the delegation to England for the crowning of Queen Elizabeth 11 of England as the next Queen. Something significant happened in England in that year during the ceremony at the Palace. The Late Eze Aro(Mazi Kanu Oji), was the only king who refused to bow before the newly crowned Queen and such became an issue to the point that the Queen enquired to know why he didn’t bow before her Majesty, but the wise king told the Queen that where he comes from, a man does not prostate before a woman.

The Queen was astonished at the boldness and the impetus of Eze Aro and such rare act, cemented the relationship between the Britain and Aro stool. The rest is history.
It is barely 34 years since Mazi Kanu Oji joined his ancestors, but the of his personality remained unmatcheable.
As at today, it is on record that the Late Mazi Kanu Oji, remain the longest ruler across West Africa who ruled consecutively for 74years between 1914 to 1987. He ascended the throne of his forefathers at the age of 14.
The Late King, was known as a peace maker, a likeable and loveable personality, a great man who deployed various options in settling disputes among his subjects.
No one comes to him angry and go back home as the same angry man, because he has a way of putting smile into the faces of the people.
Arochukwu stool, is a First Class Stool and it has helped to restore peace in Nigeria.
Immediately after the Nigerian/Biafran War in 1970, the Late Eze Aro, led a delegation to Kano and other cities across Nigeria in a bid to reintegrate Igbo traders. He was hosted in 1979 and 1986 by two Heads of State, OBJ and IBB.
