The recent move by the Rivers State Government to revamp Songhai Farm which was abandoned is still receiving recommendations. The Ogoni Youth Federation is in jubilation following this move. The secretary of the Ogoni Youth Federation Kingsley Dimkpa said so many young people lost their jobs and some were chased out of business when the Wike led administration shut the farm down for eight years. He expressed joy that the restoration of the farm will put food on tables of many families.
The secretary of the Ogoni Youth Federation Kingsley Dimkpa also urge the Rivers State Government not to play politics with this Songhai farms. He urge the governor not just to make a political statement but should ensure that within the shortest possible time, the mobilised contractors or whoever that is in charge of that place to tidy and ensure the commencement of work because according to him, that place has a major purpose in the state. It serve as a revenue generation area, ability to creating jobs and tourist center. He said intelligent at his disposal indicates that local contractors has been mobilised to the farm.
Also, an elder states man in Rumuorlumini community, in an interview with our reporters revealed that over 100 residents were gainfully employed when the Songhai Farm was at the height of its productivity. Elder Bright Baridan said the current dilapidation of the farm has plunged the community into a state of despondency. He said as the nation watches anxiously, the Rivers Songhai Farm’s rejuvenation presents a beacon of hope and a promising trajectory toward achieving vital agricultural objectives. This ambitious project carries the promise of reshaping the economic landscape and enhancing the quality of life for countless citizens in Rivers State and beyond.
A local farmer at Elenlenwo community Eze Wali, in a interview with our reporters applauded the move by the State Government led by Sir Siminalayi Fubara to revive the Songhai Agricultural Farm abandoned for long now. To him, if eventually it takes off, the youths are sure of gainful employment, and agricultural products will be marketed at cheaper rates and equally exported to boost the economy of the State. He also opined that if this is achieved, crime rate will drastically reduced.
