‘It Is Our Turn To Represent Obingwa West State Constituency’-Ahiaba La Abayi

 

The People of Ahiaba La Abayi bloc in Obingwa West State Constituency of Abia State, have cried out to the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the state, to help halt the ongoing political system in Obingwa West Constituency, where only the Mgboko/Mgboko bloc has been representing the constituency for over 24 years, saying it is the turn of Ahiaba La Abayi bloc to represent the constituency come 2023.

The people who expressed their displeasure over the neglect of their bloc, while interacting with journalists in Obingwa recently, stated that for over 24 years the Ahiaba La Abayi bloc has been denied the opportunity of representing the people of Obingwa West State Constituency at the Abia House of Assembly.

According to them, the Obingwa West State Constituency (Uhie),which is made up of six political wards namely the Abayi ward 1,Abayi ward 2,Mgboko Umuanunu ward 3, Mgboko Itungwa ward 4,Ahiaba ward 5 and Mgboko Amairi ward 6, since 1999, has been occupied only by the people Mgboko/Mgboko bloc.

Explaining further, the former Executive Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area, Hon Amaechi Hanson, the former Transition Committee Chairmen of Obingwa LGA, Hon Prince Obinna Nwabiaraije and Hon Eze Foy Walton, as well as an illustrious son of Ahiaba La Abayi bloc, Ubani-Ukoma Chingoziri and others, stated that it is disheartening that only the people of the Mgboko/Mgboko bloc have been representing their constituency, neglecting and marginalizing the Ahiaba La Abayi bloc, even when they are the ones laying the golden egg.

They said equity and fairness must be allowed to play out come 2023, threatening that if the PDP fails to give the Obingwa West (Uhie) Constituency ticket to the Ahiaba La Abayi bloc, the party may stand to loose election in the entire Ahiaba La Abayi bloc in the forthcoming elections.

Hon Amaechi Hanson stated that the Ahiaba La Abayi bloc is the largest in Obingwa West, with a voting strength of over 70,000 votes, of which Abayi ward 1 is over 11,000, Abayi ward 2 has over 40,000, while the Ahiaba ward 5 has 17,000 votes.

He added that equity should be domesticated come 2023.

Hon Nwabiaraije disclosed that it is time for the truth to be told, adding that It is a high level of marginalization for one particular bloc to remain on the seat of power for 24years.

“Our Party believes in equity, therefore, equity should be allowed to play out. The Ahiaba La Abayi bloc should be given the constituency ticket come 2023. Enough is Enough”,he stated.

For Ubani-Ukoma Chingoziri and Eze Foy Walton,frowned at the level of marginalization, stating that it is totally unfair and unjust for the Mgboko/Mgboko to continue to represent the Obingwa West State Constituency, when their brothers at the other bloc has not tasted the seat for the past 24years, stressing that what is ‘good for the goose, is also good for the gander’.

In a statement, signed by the Ahiaba La Abayi Concerned Citizens, they maintained that the party should give the Ahiaba La Abayi bloc the House of Assembly ticket,on the basis of equity.

In the Statement, the people said Hon Chimaoke Ochieze from Mgboko Itungwa ward 4, represented the Obingwa West State Constituency from 1999-2003, while Hon Uche Nwankpa (Mgboko Amairi ward 6), continued from 2003- 2015 and Hon Thomas Nkoro from Mgboko Itungwa ward 4, who is the current member representing the constituency, took over in 2015 till date.

The Statement further read, “With the present occupant of the Uhie House of Assembly seat having come from Mgboko Itungwa ward 4,it should be in the interest of justice, equity and fair play for the Ahiaba La Abayi bloc to produce the next House of Assembly member for the Obingwa West Constituency.

“It has become reasonably necessary and very important also for rotation of this power and zoning arrangements to be followed and complied with strictu sensu for equity, fairness and justice and above all for posterity.

“It is the turn of Ahiaba La Abayi to produce the next House of Assembly Member for Obingwa West Constituency”, the Statement concludes.
