Ishaku raises alarm: There are plans to attack Taraba

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has alerted Nigerians of clandestine plans to thwart the peace efforts in the state by some undesirable elements, stressing that his administration will leave no stone unturned to foil the evil plots.

Ishaku made the disclosure yesterday, while presiding over the ongoing cultural carnival at Jolly Nyame Stadium located along Mile six road, in Jalingo metropolis.

He declared that the strength of the people lies in their unity of purpose and determination to live together as a people despite their differences and to tolerate one another.

While urging Taraba people to be vigilant and security conscious, the governor added: “I am aware of plans to attack the state imminently by certain elements in the country. We are working with the security agencies to forestall this from happening and I can assure you that these plans would fail.”

He assured that security operatives have been placed on red alert, stressing that such “evil plans” would not see the light of the day and that anyone trying to destroy the state either from within or without will fail.

“Our unity of purpose as exhibited here today shows that we can withstand any challenge,” he reiterated, even as he admonished the people to remain united irrespective of religious, ethnic and political affiliations.

He added: “I urge you at this time, above all, to remain very vigilant and watchful. There is no need for panic, as we are doing everything to make sure that the relative peace we have in the state now is not compromised. We would not tolerate any attempt to infringe on our peaceful coexistence by any force whatsoever.”

The governor charged security operatives not to hesitate to arrest and prosecute any person suspected to be constituting a security threat to the state, assuring that the state government would continue to extend the much needed olive branch to the various security outfits operating in the state.

Security experts have noted with dismay the massive influx of persons from neighbouring Adamawa and Borno States, saying it is inimical to peace in Taraba State, in view of the ongoing insurgency activities.
