Iran medal tally at Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games lifted to 39

Iranian sportsmen and sportswomen have continued to present sparkling performances at the ongoing 5th edition of Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan, and earned thirteen more medals to lift the Islamic Republic’s medal tally to 39 at the multinational and multi-sport event.

On Wednesday, Iranian belt wrestlers Leila Siyahvashi and Asiyeh Shojaei took two bronze medals in the women’s freestyle minus 50-kilogram and over 70-kilogram sections.

In the men’s freestyle minus 80-kilogram weight category, Yaser Mohammadi Rostam took the third spot and earned a bronze medal.

Iranian taekwondo practitioner Hadi Tiran Valipour also got the silver medal in the men’s minus 58-kilogram weight division after he could not overcome his Japanese opponent Jun Jang 10-31 in the final encounter of the category.

Furthermore, Parisa Javadi Kouchaksaraei overcame Mengyu Zhang from China 15-13 in the last contest of women’s minus 62-kilogram category, and snatched the gold medal.

Iranian taekwondo fighter Erfan Nazemi also demonstrated amazing displays of spinning kicks and fast kicking techniques in his march to the final showdown of men’s minus 80-kilogram weight category.

He did his best and overcame Chinese taekwondo practitioner Chen Linglong 13-12 to pick up the gold medal.

Additionally, Iranian high jumper Keyvan Ghanbarzadeh added another silver to the Islamic Republic’s medal tally by registering 2.26 meters in the final contest. Majdeddin Ghazal from Syria struck the yellow metal of the same heat with 2.26 meters.

The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which is the 5th edition of the continental tournament, opened in the Turkmen capital city of Ashgabat on September 17, and will finish on September 27.

Turkmenistan is on the top of the medal count table with 127 medals (53 gold, 37 silvers and 37 bronzes).

The Islamic Republic of Iran has claimed the second spot with 39 medals (ten gold, six silvers, 23 bronzes), while Uzbekistan is on the third with a total of 57 medals (seven gold, sixteen silvers and 34 bronzes).

Kazakhstan, China, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and India have earned the 4th to 8th places respectively.
