Iran national under-17 football team, more commonly known as Nojavanan, has defeated Guinea in its opening match at the preliminary round of the 2017 the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) U-17 World Cup.
On Saturday, the Iranian outfit overcame the West African side 3-1 in a Grroup C match staged at the multi-purpose Fatorda Stadium, officially known as the Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium, in the Indian city of Margao.
Even though the Iranian team had a number of scoring opportunities in the first half, but it simply squandered the chances.
Guinea players also committed a faux pas when they were in a one-on-one with Iranian goalkeeper.
The Iranians could assert their dominance after the break, and Allahyar Sayyad gave his side the lead just before the hour mark with a superb curling shot from outside the area.
Mohammad Sharifi converted a penalty 10 minutes later after Cherif Camara’s rash challenge in the box saw him sent off for a second yellow card.
Saeid Karimi added a third in the 90th minute after a mistake by Guinea goalie Ibrahima Sylla.
Fandje Toure scored a consolation goal for Guinea in second-half stoppage time.
Iran national under-17 football team is scheduled to take on Germany in its second group stage match on Tuesday.
