The high profile international friendly between Russia and the Super Eagles of Nigeria played at the Luzhniki Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw.
The home side took the lead in the 21st minute through Semi Ajayi’s own goal. But, the match remained a ding-dong affair until the last 20 minutes when Nigeria restored parity in the 71st minute through Toluwalase Arokodare, who had replaced Victor Borniface 10 minutes earlier.
Coach Eric Chelle fielded a strong side as he tries to build a strong team ahead of their World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations.
Maduka Okoye started in goal while Osayi-Samuel, captain Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi and Bruno Onyemaechi were the defenders. Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika and Chrisantus Uche started in the mid-field while Victor Boniface led the attack with Dele-Bashiru and Moses Simon played from the right and left flank respectively.
Though Nigeria had less than 43% possession they had more shots on target four to Russia’s two.
