Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has pledged to support the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies in their efforts to provide security.
The body noted that the Commission has a responsibility to ensure that lives and property of the people who checkmates the activities of hoodlums were given the necessary back up to enhance their capacity to maintaining security in the Niger Delta region.
According to NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, who revealed this, recently, when the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, paid him a courtesy visit at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, said that the commission appreciated the services of the police to the society; announcing that without the support of the security forces, the Commission would not perform optimally.
“NDDC has always been at the fore in supporting the police.
“The police deserve all the support that they can get, because they are the ones working, while the rest of us are sleeping.
“We have executed a lot of projects to support the police and some are on-going. In the past, we provided patrol vehicles for the police across the region.
“Security can only be achieved through collaboration and sharing of information”, Ogbuku stated.
Furthermore, he urged the police to put an eye at the Marine Base axis, adjourning the NDDC headquarters, while promising that the Commission will collaborate with the police inorder to enhance the capacity of the marine command to provide adequate security in the riverine areas of the region.
Responding, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, said that the commission had proven to be fully committed to assisting the Nigeria Police to provide adequate security in the Niger Delta region; while seeking for collaboration on how best they can improve the security of lives and properties in the state.
He also expressed fullness of joy over the commission’s total support to the police force, by providing facilities to enhance the operations of the Police and other security agencies and urged it not to relent in good work; stating that the police needed the cooperation and support of all organisations to succeed.
Earlier, NDDC Executive Director Projects, Sir Victor Antai, appreciated the security agencies for putting in their best efforts to the maintenance of peace and order in the region, thereby, making the state safe for everyone to enjoy.
