A security experts in Rivers State has expressed worry over the precarious security situation in the country.
A security expert, Col. Chinedu Owunda (retd.) who disclosed this to our correspondent in Port-Harcourt alleged that the attitude of security personnel, particularly personnels of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is responsible for the increasing rate of crime in the country.
Col. Owunda, further urged Inspector General of Police (NPF) to withdraw all personnels attached to VIP’s in the country.
“Police which is saddled with internal security have not been performing their duties as it ought to be and this has so much pressure on the military. The Nigeria military has been overwhelmed with so many cumulative duties. Our territories have been seen to be open. Police not minding their duties, are relying on the soldiers. Our soldiers can not take cover everywhere”, he said.
Col. Owunda further said: “The last service chiefs did not help matters, knowing fully well that they are overwhelmed, they are suppose to recruit more personnel. They would have used the opportunity to recruit more Policemen, Airforce and more Naval personnels to augment the already existing personnel deficit” he further noted.
He pointed out that there were no synergy among the security agencies which he maintained undermined the efforts to effectively tackle complex security challenges of the country.
He, however, called for synergy among the security agencies lamenting that criminals are now taking advantage of the huge gap to make money.
He decried series of abduction taking place in the country; from the Chibok girls, to Dapchi girls and Kankara boys and the alleged ransom paid, describing it as a huge economic loss.
In his words: “This is not the country we asked for, this is not the federation we asked for. Something drastic must be done urgently”
The security expert expressed hope that the war against all forms can be won in Nigeria only through strategic synergy with all security stakeholders.
