Insecurity: Council Begins Demolition Of Structures At Lokpa Cattle Market

 

 

As part of activities to root out the activities of kidnappers and other hoodlums at the Umunneochi Local Government Area, the council has commenced the
second phase of the demolition of infamous structures at the Garki Cattle Market in Lokpa.

Speaking at the excercise, the
Umunneochi Council Chairman, Chief Ifeanyi Madu, said the excercise was aimed at taking the war against kidnapping and notoriety to the doorstep of the perpetrators.

He informed that, the demolition of infamous structures are in line with the directives of the State Governor, Dr. Okezie lkpeazu, who is committed to ensuring Umunneochi and its environs are safe from the activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements.

Chief Ifeanyi Madu disclosed that the exercise is being enforced by the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Janet E. Agbede, Commissioner for Homeland Security, Chief Supuruchi Beke, Hon Ikedi Ezekwesiri, Eze Yaro DanLadi and Hausa community stakeholders.

Though he regretted the absence of some other stakeholders such as Ndieze, youth leaders and vigilantes on the second phase and expressed hope that they would be available at the third phase of the excercise, as their presence would be a show of solidarity for the exercise.

He, however, thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who is sponsoring the logistics for the excercise and urged all to remain resolute as the Governor’s promise of rooting out activities of kidnappers and other hoodlums in Umunneochi LGA is gradually being achieved.

Recall that recently, Governor Ikpeazu took a different strategy to arrest the insecurity bedeviling the Umunneochi axis of the State and directed for demolition of infamous structures at the Garki Cattle Market in Lokpa, an excercise that commenced on the 15th of July, 2022.

It could also be recalled that the activities of kidnappers have drastically increased in the Umunneochi area in recent time, with several persons falling victims to the new tread of crime. It was in that axis the Prelate of Methodist Church, His Eminence,Samuel Kanu Uche was kidnapped alongside others and other rising cases in the area.
