The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, yesterday released the list of elected State House of Assembly members for the 2019 General Election.
After a keenly contested election, the INEC in Abia has released the list of candidates in the twenty- four state constituencies that emerged victorious in the just concluded March 9, poll.
Out of the twenty-four members published, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is still in the majority, having successfully won nineteen seats while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), took three and two seats respectively.
Some old Legislators who served in the 7th Assembly that seek re-election were returned, the likes of the Speaker of the House, Mr Chinwendu Kalu, the Majority Leader, Engr Chinedum Orji, the member representing Umuahia East state Constituency, Hon Chukwudi Apugo, Ukwa East state Constituency, Hon Paul Taribo, Hon Thomas Nkoro (Obingwa West) among others.
Also, luck ran out of some old Legislators that needed a re-election but could not make it through.The likes of the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Cosmos Ndukwe who was defeated by his APC counter part Chukwu Chijioke to represent Bende North, as well as Hon Chibuzo Okogbuo who is being replaced by Emmanuel Ndubuisi to represent Bende South.
Umunneochi state Constituency was not left out in the changes as Prince Ezekwesili could not scale through this time even when Abia North where Umunneochi falls under has been clinched by the APC. Prince Ezekwesili lost the seat to a first timer, the immediate past Umunneochi Local Government chairman, Barr Okey Igwe of the PDP.
