The Governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress, ADC Bishop Sunday Onuoha has said that he would salvage Abia if elected governor of the state come 2023.
Bishop Onuoha stated this when he led other aspirants of ADC to visit the patron of a sociocultural group; Oganainu Ndi Abia, Chief Obi Nwagbara at Umuawa Alaocho Ohuhu, in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State.
The Methodist Bishop noted that the state needs spiritual cleansing as well as people with acceptable character to lead the it aright and promised that if elected governor, he would organise a one week prayer and fasting to usher in a new page for the state.
He said; “When I become
Governor, the first one week we will cleanse the state, we will fast and pray. Because until you cleanse it, the state cannot make headway.
“Our children has been mortgaged our generation unborn has been mortgaged we must stand in the gap. And as a bishop first and foremost I’m called to reconcile men to God”.
While challenging political holders seeking public office to give a scorecard of what they have done for the masses, Bishop Onuoha encouraged citizens to hold their leaders accountable and ask questions on how their resources are being managed by those in government.
“What we need is character
We need men and women who would stand on the path of courage and truth in order to salvage our place. Why we are where we are as a people is we have people with moral deficit. We don’t subject our leaders to questioning to know their background, where they have made their money, their family, social and community lives.
“If somebody is coming to tell us what he will do when he becomes the governor, let him show us what he is already doing. That will encourage us to say go ahead.
“I have been adviser to the president of this country. I am president and founder of Vision Africa. So I ask anyone coming to contest, what have you attracted to Abia? I attracted that multi billion infrastructure, Vision Africa Radio here in Umuahia employing our people. So if you say you are going to build , show us what you have built first.
“If you say you will give employment to young people, tell me how many people you have employed that are under your payroll. We are here to open a new page for Abians”.
Bishop Onuoha who reasoned that the state has had its fair share of a politician in Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, Administrator in Chief T.A Orji and Academician in the person of the incumbent Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, urged citizens and residents alike to support the Religious class by giving him the chance to emerge the next governor of the state.
He promised not to disappoint the state if elected to serve Ndi Abia as governor.
Earlier in his speech, the host and patron of Oganaihu Ndi Abia, Chief Obinnaya Nwagbara, encouraged servants of God to participate in Politics so as to make the desired change.
He appealed to elderly men in politics to pave way for the young ones to handle the affairs of government and advised the ADC Governorship Candidate in Abia not to neglect God.
In their contribution, the state chairman of Oganairu Ndi Abia, Sir Godwin Nnorom and former publicity secretary of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Chuks Ibegbu said the group will work with the ADC governorship candidate, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, having gone through his score cards and urged him not to relent.
