Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu and his Rivers State counterpart, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike have restated the need for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to forge a united front to rescue Nigeria come 2023.
Speaking, Sunday,while receiving the Governor of Rivers State at his Country Home at Umuobiakwa, Obingwa LGA, Governor Ikpeazu noted that a United PDP was critical to the survival of Nigeria.
He described Governor Wike as a courageous and patriotic leader who is committed to the unity of Nigeria, and expressed his joy at the visit.
Governor Ikpeazu thanked the delegation from Rivers State for the visit and asked that this will be a fresh start for the relationship between the two sister states, and prayed that the new year will bring forth good tidings for the people of the two states and for Nigeria at large.
Speaking earlier, Rivers State Governor, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike stated that he came for the New Year visit to Abia to show appreciation to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for being a true friend and brother to him, especially at the Forum of Nigerian Governors and at the PDP.
He described Governor Ikpeazu as a man of character whose contributions have assisted the party to resolve controversial issues.
Governor Wike said that he cherished the personal relationship he shared with the Abia State Governor which he described as deep and very strong, and thanked the people of Abia State for supporting him.
The Governor stated that Nigeria was at a crossroads with rising cases of insecurity, banditry, mindless killings, among others and challenged the PDP to rise to the occasion by joining forces to take over power at the center in 2023.
Governor Wike was accompanied on the visit by several dignitaries from Rivers State including a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Chibudom Nwuche, the State PDP Chairman, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, Members of the State House of Assembly, Members of the State Executive Council, Chairmen of Local Government Areas in the State, Chairmen of the PDP in some Local Government Areas, former members of the National and Rivers State House of Assembly, etc.
Former Deputy Governor Eric Acho Nwakanma, House of Representatives members, Hon Darlington Nwokocha and Chimaobi Ebisike, Leader of the State Assembly, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, other members of the State Assembly – former Speaker, Rt. Hon Kennedy Njoku, Hon. Thomas Nkoro, Hon. Nnamdi Allen Nwachukwu, Hon Uzodike Aaron, State PDP Chairman, Rt Hon Asiforo Okere and members of the State Working Committee and other stakeholders were part of the meeting.
