Ikpeazu Tasks Navy On Improved Strategy Against Insurgency

 

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has tasked the Nigerian Navy to look at the content of the training provided in it’s Institutions across the country so as to meet with the modern day challenges  encountered in the fight against insurgency.

 

 

Governor Ikpeazu who gave the challenge during the Commissioning of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Intervention Projects at the Nigerian Naval Finance & Logistics College Owerrinta, Isiala Ngwa South LGA,Abia State urged management of the institution to craft programmes and projects that can be relevant towards enhancing a better and united Nigeria going forward.

He said, “I want to seize this opportunity once again to say that as a teacher, what I see in a school is beyond beautiful buildings. I want to look at the content and see what the output would be at the end of the day.

 

“Nigeria today is faced with all kinds of challenges and chief among them is insurgency which has now metamorphosed in parts of our country, including where we are standing.

 

“Therefore this creates for itself a new burden on the shoulder of all forces including this training school.

 

“Time has come for us to include in our curriculum aspects of Finance intelligence. We must begin to see ways of looking at movement of funds within and outside Nigeria especially when it concerns those who have made themselves enemies of state.

 

“I therefore ask that as you go ahead to savor and enjoy the facilities that has been so provided, may you also find time to look at the content of the training you give so that it can meet with the challenges of the 21st century.

 

The Governor who described as legendary their contributions in maintaining law and order in Nigeria,expressed happiness with the Nigerian Navy for their track record of service in defence of the country which he noted has remained a flagship force to emulate.

He commended the vision and dept of the Nigerian Navy in training of it’s men as part of efforts to enhance their self confidence and make them more proactive and better than other naval commands around the globe.

 

Also speaking, the Imo state Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, while congratulating the Nigerian Naval Finance & Logistics College Owerrinta, for the robust achievements recorded in the institution, also thanked their development partners for the intervention which he said will contribute to the development and growth of the college.

He commended the Nigerian Navy for making available their technical manpower and security to the Imo state government and called on stakeholders to support the college.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awal Gambo, in his remarks,  said the event was a testimony of the good relationship existing among the Nigerian Navy, CBN, Abia and Imo States and saluted the collective efforts of the stakeholders in realizing the projects.

 

In her speech, the representative of the CBN, Mrs. Amina Oni said the college was important to the development and trainings of the officers hence the need to intervene in the construction of the buildings,which she described as part of the corporate social responsibility of the CBN.

 

Some of the building projects commissioned include; Administrative Block, Academic Complex, Auditorium, Library & Dinning Halls, Male and Female Hostels, Gymnasium,
among others.
