Ikpeazu Replaces Obingwa Council Chairman With Deputy

 

 

Following the defection of erstwhile Chairman of Obingwa LGA, Hon Ibe Micheal Nwoke from the People’s Democratic Party,(PDP) Mrs Uloma Nwogu has been sworn- in as the new Chairman of the Local Government Council.

 

Mrs Nwogu was untill her new position, the Deputy Chairman of Obingwa LGA.

Speaking at the Swearing in Ceremony held at Exco Chamber, Government House Umuahia, the Governor, Dr Okezie Ilpeazu said he recieved a letter dated 23rd May 2022 written by the former Executive Chairman of Obingwa LGA Hon Ibe Nwoke entitled: Resignation of my party membership.

 

He said: “In consonance with the laws guiding the local governments in Abia state, the consequence of this letter is that he has breached the provisions of Section 23(1)f of the Abia state local government no 2 of 2006.

“This makes it imperative that a new chairman would be sworn in to take over the realms of power at that level as the former had decided to pursue his political career on another platform”.

Ikpeazu therefore charged the newly sworn in chairman to protect the interest of the people of Obingwa and Abia in general, and urged her to mainstream the interest of women and youths as well as evolve lasting programmes and policies in the local government council.

 

 

He noted that his government is the only one that deemed it wise to conduct Local government elections for two consecutive times within his tenure adding that the essence is to deepen democracy and involve youths and women in the process of governance.

The Governor congratulated the new chairman and advised her to leave legacy, as her stewardship will open more doors for women.

 

 

In her acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Mrs Uloma Nwogu thanked the Governor for finding her worthy to serve and promised not to disappoint him and the state.

Present during the ceremony where ceremony were the SSG Barr.Chris Ezem, Chief of Staff to the Governor Barr.Okey Ahaiwe, Commissioner for Information Dr Eze Chikamnayo, Commissioner for General Duties and Vulnerable Groups, Hon Chosom Nwachukwu among other government functionaries.
