Ikpeazu Mourns Late Col. Anthony Obi, Former Military Administrator Of Abia State

 

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has sent his deepest sympathies to the family of the Late Col Anthony Obi (Rtd),a former Military Administrator of Abia State,on his demise.

 

The late Col. Obi who died on the 1st day of January, 2022 at the age of 70,hailed from Akpugo in Nkanu West LGA of Enugu State.

 

Appointed Military Administrator of Abia State in August 1998 – May 29th 1999, the late Col. Obi managed the last stages of the transition to civilian rule and had the honor of handing over to the former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu.

He was Military Administrator of Osun State prior to his transfer to Abia State where he took over from Col. Moses Fasanya.

Governor Ikpeazu in a condolence message endorsed by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, described the Late Col. Obi as an officer and a gentleman whose career in the Nigerian Army witnessed several successes.

 

According to the Governor “Late Rtd Col. Obi’s place in the history of Abia State is assured. Fate and destiny positioned him to play a critical role in our evolution into a democratic society. He had the exceptional privilege of being the last Military Officer to govern Abia State and also to hand over to a democratically elected Governor. We will always remember him”.

The Governor while praying God to grant the deceased eternal rest, urged his family to find strength in the purposeful life he lived and in his indelible contributions to the nation, especially as an officer of the Nigerian Army.
