Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has charged the 27 newly Sworn in Commissioners in the state Abia State Executive Council to support his administration drive it’s vision to create a better State for the people, warning that those found wanting would be shown the way out.
Governor Ikpeazu who stated this during the swearing in ceremony at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia, made it clear that their offices as Commissioners is not for the purpose of enriching themselves rather to bring their experiences to bear and make robust contributions towards the growth and development of the state.
He further warned that their is nothing juicy in the appointments adding that they should see their appointment as a call to duty.
“I received a few text messages few weeks before now from some of you who had the audacity to request that i put them in what they regard as juicy portfolios and that gave me a quick idea of what such individuals and kind of mindset they have, coming to the State Exco Council.
“Let me warm you from the onset that there is nothing juicy anywhere. If your agenda is to come and make money, you will be disappointed from the first month but if your agenda is to come and work, and bring your knowledge and experience to bear and make robust and meaningful contribution to the growth and development of our dear State, then you will find enough challenges to make your work and job exciting.
“This is my way of saying to you that this is a call to duty and nothing more than that. The office of the Honorable Commissioner under my watch is not a place for you to come and mark time. If you have no business in that Exco, we will show you the exit door quickly so that we can bring on board those who are determined to work for the interest of the vulnerable people in our Communites that we have sworn to collectively serve”, Ikpeazu added.
The Governor disclosed that his administration is on its final lap, hence the desire of Government to complete ongoing projects and possibly embark on new ones.
He assured that Government will provide them with the resources to work with and urged them to leverage connections and wealth of experience in moving their various ministries forward.
Governor Ikpeazu who advised them to remain loyal to the Government also tasked them to keep in touch with their localities saying that Government would rely on them to galvanize support from the grassroot.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the new Commissioner for Information and strategy, Dr Eze Chikamnayo thanked Governor Ikpeazu for “the rare privilege of being part of the state Executive Council assuring that they will not let the government and people of the state down.
