Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi east, says he has regained his freedom after spending 11 hours in the “wilderness”.
Melaye’s brother had raised an alarm on Thursday that the senator had been kidnapped.
Ben Murray-Bruce, a senator from Bayelsa, had quoted him (the brother) as saying Melaye was bundled into a Toyota Sienna while he was travelling to Kogi.
Writing via his Twitter handle on Friday, Melaye thanked Nigerians for their prayers while in “custody”.
He wrote: “I thank God once again for escaping another dangerous attack. I also thank Nigerians for their prayers and show of Love.
“Spent 11 hours in the wilderness traumatized but God preserved me. God is the best and in whom only I trust. They will continue to try. We shall overcome.”

The police had earlier said it received no report or complaint of the senator’s alleged kidnap.
Melaye was absent on Thursday at a magistrate court in Lokoja, Kogi state, where he is facing a gun-running trial.
Owing to his absence, the case was adjourned till August 9.
