Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has said that he is fully in support of a Nigerian President of South East extraction, noting that it was just for the Igbos to be given a chance to produce the next Nigerian President.
Governor Ikpeazu stated this, Sunday, at his country home, Umuobiakwa, Obingwa LGA when he received former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation,Senator Anyim Pius Anyim who paid him a visit.
The Governor said that no other tribe in Nigeria has demonstrated practical belief in the Nigerian nation better than the Igbos as can be seen from the fact that Igbo people live and invest heavily in every part of the country.
Ikpeazu who described Senator Anyim as a man whose public service credentials and experience are good enough for the Presidency of Nigeria adding that Senator Anyim’s credentials in the South East and Nigeria stand very tall.
He advised Sen. Anyim to take his message across the country and assured him of the prayers and support of the people of Abia State in his quest to run for the office of the President of Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, Senator Anyim said he came to formally inform Governor Ikpeazu and the party leadership in the State of his plans to contest for the Presidency of the country in the 2023 elections.
Sen. Anyim noted that the South East was the most qualified zone in Nigeria to produce the next President on the basis of equity and justice.
He said that after a careful analysis of his antecedents, experience, passion and wide contacts across the country, he decided to make himself available for the contest and asked for the support of the Governor and the party in the State, assuring that he will be a candidate and a President that the people will be proud of.
Senator Anyim was accompanied on the visit by a Member of the House of Representatives from Ebonyi State, Hon. Livinus Makwe.
