Member representing Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Barr.) Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, has stated that Nigeria’s greatest challenge is not the lack of resources but the absence of capable leadership.
Speaking in Umuahia, during the 75th birthday celebration of renowned pharmacist, industrialist and former Presidential Aspirant, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, Hon Onuakalusi, extolled the celebrant as a shining example of what leadership anchored on capacity and integrity can achieve.
The Lawmaker recalled Ohuabunwa’s 2022/2023 presidential ambition, describing it as evidence of his conviction that Nigeria deserves better leadership and should not remain trapped in poverty despite its enormous potential.
He described Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa as an outstanding leader and role model whose life embodies hard work, perseverance and capacity to transform society, adding that his contributions span across business, leadership and national development.
“The difference between capacity and authority is clear. What makes an office is not the title but the competence of the person occupying it.
“When you put a man of capacity in office, he turns it around. Unfortunately, Nigeria’s political environment often denies such men the opportunity to deliver.
“At 75, if you look at what Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa has accomplished, you must say it is excellent. He has demonstrated leadership, capacity, and the belief that through faith in God one can attain great heights”, Hon Onuakalusi stated.
He emphasised that leadership positions should be seen as a loan from the people, urging public office holders to use their positions to bring about meaningful change.
The Lagos Lawmaker emphasized that Mazi Ohuabunwa’s life and career serve as enduring lessons in diligence, integrity and service, as evidence in his legacy etched across the pharmaceutical industry, the Nigeria Economic Summit Group and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria.
“At 75, it is just the beginning for him. He can attain 85, 90, even 100. Men like him should live long so that some of us can continue to draw from their wisdom and commitment to national progress.
“Nigeria can, and must move forward. A new Nigeria is still possible”, he declared.
