A legal practitioner and an educationist, Hon. Barr. Nnenna Obewu Onwuka has condemned the recent comment by the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Smart Adeyemi and demanded for a public apology.
In a press statement by the former Commissioner for Transport in Abia state, she described the comment as an unwarranted ranting of a confused personality, in the mould of a Senator, aimed at tarnishing the image of the Governor.
The Press Statement reads thus:
PRESS STATEMENT ON THE CARELESS VITUPERATIONS OF SENATOR SMART ADEYEMI ON THE FLOOR OF THE SENATE AND THE EXIGENCY OF A PUBLIC APOLOGY, RETRACTION OF STATEMENT.
I was privileged to watch the unfortunate speech of Senator Smart Adeyemi on the floor of the senate where he casts aspersion on our revered Governor, Okezie Victor IKPEAZU PhD. I therefore vehemently condemn the unwarranted ranting of a confused personality, in the mould of a Senator, aimed at tarnishing the image of the Governor .
It is on record that the easy going Governor of Abia state has never, in any way, offended the sensibility of fellow country men being that he has been busy chatting a good course for the people of Abia state as corroborated by the award, recently, as the third best state in terms of foreign investment inflow.
Equally in areas of infrastructural development, the Governor has transformed Aba, Enyimba city, beyond the expectations of even his detractors to the extent that the new song in Aba,now, is that “Nwa Aba aruola Aba” meaning that an Aba son has turned aba around for good.
Our Governor has done a lot also in providing succur for our teeming youths and women in the areas of job creation and skill acquisition despite the lean resources available.
I wonder where Senator Adeyemi based his statement of incoherence and defamation!
I wish to state, categorically, that the statement of Senator Smart Adeyemi is not only derogatory. It is also libelous, unfortunate and unbecoming of a person allowed to enjoy the privilage of accessing the hallowed chambers.
I therefore call on the Leadership of the Senate to cause him to render a public apology to the Governor and the people of Abia state for his unwholesome action which has portrayed the good people of Abia state in bad light.
He should be made to retract his statements with immidiate effect lest we shall stop at nothing to challange his libellous action.
