Staff of the Abia State Hospital Management Board, HMB, on thursday, locked the entrance of the Board located along Aba Road, Umuahia in protest, calling on the government’s support over their unpaid salaries
The workers carrying placards with inscriptions such as : Abia State Govt SOS: HMB Workers Cry Out, Abia Health is Paramount not by starving HMB Health Workers, Pay HMB workers their 12 months salary, our children are dying of hunger, said the current administration in Abia State has not treated them fairly in relation to their welfare.
Addressing newsmen, the Chairman, Allied Action Committee, HMB, Comrade Echeta Chikezie, told newsmen that they were protesting over 12 months salary arrears owed them by the Abia State Government.
In his words, ” We are protesting because of the salaries Abia state government is owing us which is 12 months arrears. Last year when they paid us basic salary, they promised to pay every month and this is April 2022 yet they have not given us anything”.
On her part, the chairperson, Medical and Health Workers HMB chapter, Comrade Nwokeoma Chidinma Mary, said government has refused to honour the agreement the workers reached with them last year, appealing to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to come to their aid.
“Our workers are dying of hunger and the government is treating us like slaves”, she concluded.
Recall that workers of the Abia Hospital Management Board (AHMB), November last year, protested against non-payment of their 19 monthly salary arrears at the Umuahia Office located along Aba Road.
