HIV/AIDS: Abia Moves To Stop New Infection

The State Prevention Technical Working Group on HIV/AIDS has been charged to implement comprehensive prevention strategies to ensure the achievement of Zero new infections of HIV/AIDS across the State.

The New Project Manager/Executive Secretary of the State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Dr Mrs Uloaku Emma-Ukaegbu, stated this in the third quarter meeting of the Group recently at Harriet Hotel Umuahia, Abia State.

 

The Project Manager said that the government of Dr Alex Otti is doing great in the health sector, especially in the area of HIV/AIDS; to ensure the achievement of 95:95:95 before the year 2030. This entails the target of 95% of all Abians knowing their HIV status, 95% of those positive being placed on treatment and 95% of those on treatment achieving viral suppression.

Dr. Mrs Emma- Ukaegbu, however, charged the CARITAS International and Society for Family Health to work in collaboration with SACA and other relevant stakeholders on HIV/AIDS, to ensure quality service delivery that will generate evidence- base data.

Highlights of the meeting were the presentation of prevention activities implemented in 2nd quarter of the year by the key service provider in the State, as well as a session of brainstorming, questions and development of an action plan based on identified gaps and challenges in other to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS.
