As a way of dousing the security threats emanating from the activities of Fulani herdsmen in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, youths have been urged to go back to the farm and cultivate on their land that have lied fallow for so long.
This is arising from the recent meeting held with the youths of the area, under the aegis of Umunneochi Youth Forum in Nkwoagu, advising youths to go and cultivate on their lands they have left dormant,so that the Fulani herdsmen would not use it as a grazing site for their cattle.
As it was understood that the herders are attracted by virgin lands which have lied uncultivated for a long time and grown with weeds which eventually become food for their cattle.
The youths said with the recent security challenges confronting the nation, there is need by communities to expedite action to stop the ongoing herders gruesome attack on rural dwellers.
In view of this, the youth agreed that there will be a summit of political stakeholders in the Umunneochi area, the various Traditional rulers, Security agents, as well as leaders of the Fulani group, where it would be spelt out that the Fulanis should vacate the Umunneochi land within a given time frame.
The youths also discussed on issues bordering on their welfare particularly on how to redeem decorum on their Umunneochi Youths social media platform, stressing that the spate of attacks, hate speeches and insults meted on members, especially political office holders on the platform, have become alarming, hence the need to clamp it down.
The group further tendered an unreserved apology to those who have been victimized, stating that the group has adopted their social media platform to be strictly for the dissemination of information that would better the lot of the youth, therefore, anyone caught engaging otherwise would face the risk of being removed from the platform.
While stating that the group’s WhatsApp platform should go through a screening process to remove members that are above the age bracket 16-45 years, in order to restore sanity to the group,as already the presence of elders and political office holders have orchestrated the constant arguments, sycophancy and other ill behaviours which is turn bring about abuses among the youth, the youths agreed that efforts should be made to add and involve all community and church youths in the group, as well as carry them along in the scheme of things.
The founder of the WhatsApp platform, Comr Uche Onwuka, while thanking the youths for attending their first offline meeting, urged them to remain calm as better days lie ahead of them
