Tragedy struck in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, as unknown gunmen attacked a community, killing 19 people and wounding another 5.
The attack took place on Friday morning.
The lattest attack is coming when the state is commemorating the 16th anniversary of the September 7, 2001 riot between Christians and Muslims.
The riot, which claimed more than 1000 lives, broke out over the appointment of Alhaji Muktar Mohammed as local coordinator of the Federal Poverty Alleviation Programme. Those behind tragic riot are yet to be prosecuted.
While confirming the latest attack, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command, Matthias Tyopev, disclosed that the command is investigating the incident.
Tyopev said, “About 19 persons have been killed in the attack, although no arrest has been made because we are still investigating.”
