Gunmen attack Rivers University Students’ Lodge, injure 2

Unknown gunmen have attacked Rivers State University (RSU) students’ residence at no 20 Osina street, Mile 3 Diobu, Port-Harcourt.

Information gathered revealed that the gunmen raided the students’ lodge located outside the university campus.

One of the students who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that “the robbers invaded the yard this morning, robbed residents, inflict machetes cuts on two students and made away with some valuables”

According to him, items stolen by the five-man robbers included, “Mobile phones, wrist watches, pan slippers, laptops, monies and injured two persons badly.”

Our source further said the robbers compelled one of their victims to transfer money through his bank’s mobile App in his phone to an account they provided.

He however called for improved security around the area.

When contacted, Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State University, Dr. Harcourt Whyte denied knowledge of the incident.

He said “We do not have any hostel outside the university campus, probably the students were attacked in their homes, but we will investigate the incident.

Earlier, a staff in the media department of the institution, Jessy Okedi while commenting on the incident said even though some students of the university were affected, added, that the university does not bear the responsibility for the actions or inactions of students that are living outside the campus.
