A Civil Society Organisation, Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN), has raised the alarm over purported plan to cause labour unrest in the Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The Director of the group, Otuekong Franklyn Isong who raised the alarm on Thursday, March 6, during a press conference at his office in Uyo said the group gathered some intelligence in that regard from its network in the State.
He, therefore, called on the security agencies, management and staff of the College and members of the public to be on alert.
The Center claimed that sponsors of the plots were working with some staff and members of the College community to cause mayhem to the school.
He added, “CHRAN has noted that the intention of the sponsors of the plots is to instigate unrest within the College, disrupt academic activities, and stall the ongoing process of upgrading the institution from a College of Education to a University of Education.”
He also commended the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for paying attention to the educational needs of the people of the State by showing concern in the development of the College through the construction of internal roads network in the College, among other ongoing projects.
The Director further commended the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for considering a Bill to upgrade the College of Education, Afaha Nsit to the Akwa Ibom State University of Education, Afaha Nsit and called on all critical stakeholders within and outside the College of Education, Afaha Nsit to work together in the best interest of the College and Akwa Ibom State.
