A non-governmental organisation, Zakladi Initiative for Community Development, has distributed various agricultural inputs to women and organisations as part of activities to mark the birthday of her founder/ chief executive officer.
Speaking at the event held at Ibeku High School, Umuahia, the Programme Manager of the organisation, Mrs. Helen Mannic, said that the objective of their humanitarian empowerment and intervention was to help alleviate suffering and minimise economic hardship facing the people especially at post pandemic crisis.
Mrs. Mannic said that they are equally involved in reduction of community poverty, gender based violence, community peace building, infrastructure support, climate change awareness,care for orphans, children, widows, and other vulnerable groups among others.
She said that Zakladi has been involved in empowering young persons in different diverse of works by distributing agric inputs, payment of hospital bills, donations of materials to IDP camps and clothing to nursing mothers and different forms of aids to disabled persons.
According to her, the humanitarian gestures of the organisation do not have any political undertone, but their activities are solely sponsored by her founder.
The Programme Manager disclosed that the organisation maintains it’s
presence in all parts of the country and during their outreach in Abia, Over 60 bundles of 419 cassava Stems, a special high breed cassava that matured within six months and contains Vitamin E,many bags of CMT 90 Maize seedlings, 20/10/10 all purpose Npk fertiliser, Over 60 hoes for weeding, bales of suits and shoes, as well as lots of baby materials distributed to nursing mothers.
She urged the beneficiaries to make good use of these empowerment given to them so that within the next six months, they would see the dividend and socio-economic impact in their lives.
Mrs Mannic said that the best appreciation to show would be to put in good use of what they have received by not selling but plant them and join Zakladi initiative to reduced the level of poverty and hunger in the society
In their words of appreciation, some of the beneficiaries, including the Principal, Ibeku High School, Lady Ada O .Acho and Mrs Chinenye Uche Nwosu commended the philanthropic gesture of the founder of Zakladi Initiative for using her birthday to touch the lives of women and vulnerable people in the state.
They advised other beneficiaries to put the farm inputs to work in order to have bumper harvest and have food sufficiency in their families and state.
The Highlight of the event was the cutting of cake in celebration of the Founder’s birthday,Prayers for her and presentation of Walking Clutches to disable persons.
