The Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has reaffirmed Government’s resolve to always synergize with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the state to sustain the prevailing peace and security prevalent in the state.
Dr Ikpeazu who reaffirmed this during the 2018 Nigerian Army West African Social Activities (WASA)held at the Goodluck Jonathan Barracks, Ohafia said the role of the Military in securing and defending the territorial integrity of the country cannot be overemphasize, adding that Abians will remain grateful to the military for their dogged efforts in the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminality in the state which has contributed immensely to the status of Abia as one of the safest States in the Country.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu ,described as fascinating that the age-long Military tradition aimed at creating a social and conducive atmosphere of relaxation for officers, soldiers and their families to socialize
with their host community and commended the 14 Brigade Command for packaging the event
He further noted that the Command will not only use the occasion to showcase and project the rich cultural heritage of the nation, but also honour personnel who distinguish themselves in various fields of specialization and prayed God to continue to guide them as they discharge their professional duties and responsibilities for the common good of all.
In his address, the Commander, 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Brigadier S B Kumapaye said the 14 Brigade have been able to achieve the objective behind setting the Nigerian Army Social Activities which is an accepted age-long tradition aimed at creating a social and conducive atmosphere and relaxation for officers soldiers and their families to socialize with host community at the end of a training year through display of their indigenous culture.
Brigadier Kumapaye appreciated the state government for the wonderful support they have been extending to the Nigerian Army and reassured that the Brigade will continue to fight against kidnapping, oil theft, armed robbery and other vices confronting the Brigade Area of operational responsibilities.
Highlight of the ceremony was inspection of various stands and exhibitions by the Governor’s representative, as well as presentation of souvenir and performances by various cultural Troupes in the country.
