Govt of Abia State, VHF and TLC Home Services Celebrates UN Int’l Day of the Elderly.

The Government of Abia State in collaboration with the Vicar Hope Foundation and Tender Loving Care has marked this year World Health Organisation Day of The Elderly with a special party for the elderly in the State.

Speaking at the occasion at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia, the Wife of Abia Governor Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, advised families to make as a priority the welfare of their aged ones.

The Governor’s wife noted that making out a day to celebrate the elderly with proper medical care would help to elongate the life of the aged ones in our society.

The Abia First Lady explained that the State government will establish home care centres to service and uplift the health conditions of the elderly in the state adding that there is need for policies that would improve quality of life for our senior citizens in the country.

In his speech, chairman on the occasion and Former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Eric Acho Nwakanma, said that old age is not a curse but a blessing.

Nwakanma pointed out that what the government of the state has done has given the elderly sense of belonging and not of abandoning.

He commended the state government, vicar hope foundation and tender loving care for making the elderly count in our society.

Meanwhile, the founder, Tender Loving Care home services, Chief Chuck Emelike Osondu, said that his team has visited and treated many elderly people in the various local government of the state.

Emelike stressed that the elderly were once young and should not be neglected because of their frailties rather we should be close to them, care for them and also gain knowledge and understanding of our culture and norms because in their age lies the wisdom.
