Governor’s Wife Leads Walk to Curb Violence Against Women, Children

As part of efforts to eliminate all forms of violence against women and children, The Wife of the Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, who led a road walk on Thursday December 7, 2023 in Umuahia, the state capital during a Sensitization campaign to commemorate the 16 days of Activism against ‘Gender Based Violence with the Theme’: Unite! Invest To Prevent Violence against women and children stated that the essence of the campaign was to create more awareness on the need for the citizens to join hands in the fight by reporting any form of abuse to the ministry of Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation, adding that the present Administration would continue to ensure that the safety & rights of the women as well as the vulnerable persons are protected.

She further stated that the campaign was organized in collaboration with Caritas Nigeria, a faith based organization which has continued to partner with Government in the fight against Gender Based Violence.

 

Also Speaking, the Technical Officer Gender Education & Protection, OVC Unit , Mrs Noami Thompson and Orphans and Vulnerable Children unit lead Mr Everistus Aneke who spoke on behalf of Caritas team, said as part of their mandate, Caritas would continue to partner all relevant Ministries and Agencies to improve the lives of vulnerable people in the State

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence which kick-started in the state from 25th November with media engagement and other activities will end by 10th December 2023
