Wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs Nkechi Caroline Ikpeazu, Friday, officially, bagged a Doctorate of Philosophy Degree in Management Sciences from the Abia State University Uturu.
Mrs Ikpeazu was among the 5,712 graduands of the 27th / 28th Combined Convocation ceremony of the institution which saw Dike Emmanuel from the Department of Biochemistry and Ezigbo Chukwuemeka from the Department of Architecture emerge as Overall Best Graduating students of the University with a CGPA of 4.67 and 4.64 respectively.
Speaking at the convocation ceremony which also featured the conferment of first degrees, higher degrees, Emeritus professorship, Honorary Degrees and presentation of prizes, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu while congratulating the graduands, challenged them to create knowledge that would be relevant to the society.
He reminded them that their certificate is not a meal ticket but a key that will open doors adding that they require sincerity, humility, doggedness and resilience inorder to excel in their chosen fields of endeavour and expressed confident that they would make great impact outside the confines of the University.
Ikpeazu saluted the doggedness and resilience of the lectures, management team of the institution and students for holding on and making sure that the event became a reality despite the delay experienced due to covid-19.
The Governor however tasked the University management to readjust it’s curricular in such a way as to meet the everyday needs of the Society, pledged the continuous support of the Abia State government to the institution adding that his administration would meet with the school management to solve problems bedeviling the progress and growth of the institution.
In his speech, the Chancellor of the Institution,Prof. James Ayatse, congratulated the wife of the Governor, Mrs Nkechi Caroline Ikpeazu for bagging a Doctorate of Philosophy in Management Sciences from the faculty of Business Administration as well as other graduands of the institution and urged them to strive to give their best as worthy ambassadors of the University.
He thanked Governor Ikpeazu for appointing him as the 8th Chancellor of ABSU, pointing out that he will justify the confidence reposed in him by bringing his wealth of experience to impact on the fortunes of the University and called on all stakeholders to corporate with the vice Chancellor to enable him succeed.
Also speaking, the Pro Chancellor and chairman of Governing Council, Sen. Adolphus Wabara while congratulating graduands of the institution, urged them to identify the noble aspirations and cause of the institution.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor ABSU, Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu announced that the two best graduating students,Dike Emmanuel and Ezigbo Chukwuemeka have been offered automatic employment as Academic staff of the University in line with the directive of Governor Ikpeazu.
He thanked the Governor of Abia State and visitor of the University, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for his untiring efforts in keeping the institution afloat since his tenure which he said has contributed to uninterrupted academic calendar.
