Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has lashed out at the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for it’s continued silence against the increase in fuel price.
Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) in a new monthly template Thursday announced that price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise called petrol has increased to N212.6 per litre.
Governor Wike while speaking at the commissioning of the Secretariat of TUC in Ozuoba, Obio Akpor local government area of Rivers State Friday said both unions are dead under the present federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Governor accused the labour unions of being selfish and always reacting only to issues that would benefit them alone.
He said “Since the inception of this government (Buhari’s administration), labour died. Under Jonathan, labour was alive, the country must burn down because he was from minority area.
“Look at what is happening today: Fuel price increase, insecurity, increase of electricity tarrif. In all these, where is labour? Where is TUC, where is NLC?
“The only thing I hear is minimum wage all the time. Everytime we are going to National Assembly to stop them from moving minimum wage to state control. That cannot help us. Labour has died. Labour must wake up.”
The governor however donated N50Million and a brand new bus to the Rivers State chapter of the Trade Union Congress directed the her leadership not to make any more demands.
