Gov Otti Welcomes Former House Rep Member, Others To Labour Party, Promises Equality

 

No fewer than 300 people from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Young Progressive Party (YPP) Tuesday, formally defected to the Labour Party (LP).

 

Among the defectors were former House of Representatives Member, Mr. Chimaobi Ebisike and Mr. Micheal Amaku of the PDP, along with Mr. Ahamefula Ikonne of the YPP, who were recieved by Governor Alex Otti during a brief ceremony held at Aba South Council Secretariat.

In his address, Gov Otti emphasized that the LP treats everyone fairly and equally, without any concept of “ranking members” within the party and assured the defectors that they would enjoy all the rights and privileges available to LP members.

“I want to warmly welcome you happily to Labour Party.

 

“Like I told some of you earlier, Labour Party does not discriminate,the day you become a ranking member.

 

So nobody would discriminate against you, particularly those of you that have held political offices“, Otti stated.

Also, National Vice Chairman (Southeast) of the LP, Mr. Ceekay Igara, highlighted that the LP is open to anyone willing to join, as the party aims to grow in the state.

 

‘You are joining LP today and I would like to inform you that Labour Party is for everyone because we desire to grow.

“We don’t want a situation where you will join us and there would be crisis in the party”, Igara said.

He encouraged the new members to actively contribute to the party’s growth and strength going forward.

 

“We will be very pleased to have your sustained commitment to facilitate the progress of the party“, he said.

 

The event featured the presentation of the Labour Party flag to the defectors, symbolizing their formal acceptance into the party.
