Gov. Otti sends strong warning to Extortionists, Illegal levy collectors

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has warned that his administration gives zero tolerance to all forms of extortion and touting activities. The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu gave the warning when he received the protesting Driver’s Union, who came to register their grievances over the illegal activities of one Tochi Ephraim and his men, who in defiance against the Government directives, imposed on the drivers along Osisioma Flyover, all sorts of illegal levies.

He assured them that Governor Otti would give a positive response to the issue and while assured that the perpetrators will be brought to book.

Your message has been well delivered and you should be assured that the governor of the State would be duly informed and actions will be taken immediately.

“Please I want you all to continue to be law-abiding citizens of this state. We heard you loud and clear. Just wait for the government to respond and bring the needed help as we have already told you people that help is here”.

The Governor’s representative lauded the peaceful conduct of the protesting drivers who came directly to lodge their complaints to the government instead of engaging in an unacceptable way of destroying the properties of the government.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Transport, Comrade Sunny, lauded the Drivers for their orderliness, pointing out there is no one treated unfairly that will not protest especially in a country where freedom of expression of freedom exists.

He pointed out that the full weight of the law awaits anyone who sees himself or herself as being bigger than the State.

Earlier in his speech, Mr. Henry Chima who spoke on behalf of Drivers Union said that they came to inform the state government of the extortion and illegal levies imposed on them by one Tochi Ephraim and his men along Osisioma Flyover despite the directive of the state government on the illegal levy.
