Abia State Governor,Dr Alex Otti,, says he has commenced the rebuilding process of Aba, the state’s commercial nerve centers to restore the city to its former glory.
Governor Otti stated while addressing a mammoth crowd of Aba people who staged a victory rally along major streets of Aba in celebration of the supreme court victory of the Governor.
The Governor highlighted plans for the reconstruction of Ohanku and Obohia roads, using rigid pavement for long-term durability.
He said: “We have started the process of rebuilding Aba and taking it out of the hole that it had found itself.By the grace of God, now that the storm is over, you will see for yourself what will happen.
“We have already taken the decision that the road in Ohanku and Obuohia, the construction will start before the end of this month.
“We have also looked at the topography of those two roads and we took an additional decision that we are going to use rigid pavement technically also called Cement technology to build those roads so that in the next twenty to thirty years, nobody will talk about it’s maintenance”.
Governor Otti emphasized his commitment to address Aba’s perennial flooding noting that his administration has received a design from experts which involves diverting stormwater from Ariaria, Ukwu Mango, and Ndiegoro to the waterside river.
The Government said unless the flooding problem is addressed, some of the roads in the city will face danger in the years ahead.
According to him, the companies involved in the comprhensive flooding project would be meeting with him soon, to finalize on the project which its estimated costs range between 80 to one hundred billion naira.
The Governor said the idea to mitigate flood in Aba is to the people a new lease of life as well as to elongate the life span of road infrastructure.
Governor Otti while assuring the completion of the Aba-Port Harcourt road by Julius Berger this year,thanked the people of Aba for their support for the present adminstration.
Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa, in his remarks expressed gratitude to the people for their support, pledging that they would complement and collaborate with the state government to ensure good governance.
In his remarks, the Speaker Abia House of Assembly ,Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa thanked Aba people for their support, noting that many things would had eluded them if not for the coming Governor Alex Otti .
Also, the Mayor of Aba South LGA, Chief Uche Wogu, commended Governor Otti’s achievements in the past seven months and lauded the Governor for the many in the areas including plans to commence reconstruction of Ohanku and Obohia roads.
